About Both Feet In

Because life is better when you jump right in. Don’t close your eyes. Don’t pinch your nose. Don’t hold your breath. Just jump.

I am a procrastinator and have strong tendencies to daydream about doing things instead of actually doing them. I am forever coming up with grand ideas, and then planning them out to the nth degree in my head, while never actually taking a solid step towards making those plans a reality.

You know that saying “it’s the journey, not the destination”? Well, I fear that I place too much emphasis on what those dreams will look like once they’ve been realized, rather than on enjoying bringing them to fruition.

So I’ve decided that I want to put a few more of those dreams and plans in to action. I want to relish in the ride. Celebrate the small steps. And I want to do all those things while not completely losing the daydreaming procrastinator that I know I am underneath it all.

Enter Both Feet In. This is going to be the place that keeps me accountable – where I dish on actually doing all those things that I keep saying I want to do. Get up early. Write my book. Embrace health. Learn to surf. You know – the important stuff. I’ll be doing that with the help of Day Zero – home of the 101 in 1001 project. Basically, you set out a list of 101 things that you want to do in 1001 days (about 2.75 years). You can read about my Day Zero list by clicking the link at the top of the page.

Now let me just say that I know this blog has taken a few turns as I’ve tried to work out what I want it to do. I just couldn’t quite find its purpose. I made a couple of changes over the months, trying different things on. I don’t blame you if you’re suspicious that this change won’t last either, but I am confident that it will – this one has been marinating for ages, and the longer I think about it the happier I am with it. So, welcome to Both Feet In.

Come back and read about my journey to embrace the little things – to stop straddling the fence and jump on in – with both feet!

Want more? Ok then – a bit of random Laura facts…

  • I firmly believe that I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
  • I have wanted to be a writer for basically my whole life, on and off. My most prolific period was when I was about ten years old. Many an afternoon was spent holed up in my room, crouched over my desk, penning the great Canadian novel. Sadly, this early dedication has yet to return for a continuous period of time ever since.
  • Despite that, I have managed to make my living writing in one way or another for the past few years. Currently, that involves professional communications in the health field.
  • I live with my boyfriend, Aram. He makes me happy every day.
  • We also have cat, named Bear, and a puppy, named Saylor. They also make me happy every day. You’ll probably hear a lot about them throughout these posts.
  • My ultimate dream is to live on a farm with a whole whack of animals (horses, dogs, cats, chickens, maybe a few goats or llamas!), write my own work full-time, and make babies.
  • I have yet to figure out how to make this happen.
